An analogy

Case1- USA was in hunt of Osama for alleged involvement in 9/11. Assuming all details of assassination of Osama is at least 50% truth, US came to know about Osama's whereabouts 7 days ago. Plan to attack the said place was finalised. After few mock drills, plan was executed with precision and Osama was killed...and "Justice was done" fr US and victims of 9/11.

Case2- If Osama wanted in India....IB with all it's resources gets the whereabouts of Osama. passes the files to home ministry. If at all file is processed, Indian PM calls pak's president and inform about the situation. Pak president demands proof regarding indictment of Osama. Home secretary level meeting is organised. India hands over dossier including red corner notice of Interpol. Pak takes it's own time and studies the report. After gap of 3-4 months pakistan says that evidences are not enough to prosecute Mr. Osama. Another meeting is organized and another set of evidences given. Finally after 3-4 rounds pakistan agrees that Osama is guilty but demands he would be trialed in pakistan's court. India approaches US and after multiple negotiations, US directs Pak to hand over Osama to India...provided Osama is unaware of things going around and stays there. Osama is in India. Indian government celebrates it's "victory of truth".

Now Osama is suffering from senile diseases. He is provided good medical care and security. He is provided with lawyer...and trial begins amidst lots of media coverage....Osama becomes celebrity. After long tedious procedure Osama is awarded death sentence.. Again our PM gives proud speech of victory and how his government succeeded in curbing terrorism.

As per judicial procedure his sentence is confirmed by HC and challenged in SC and his sentence is confirmed. Now old man Osama suffering from multiple old age diseases appeals to president of India for pardon. His files gets stuck up between home ministry and office of president. After some time, passenger plane of India is hijacked by Al-qayeda and terrorists demand release of Osama. Finally Government gives in and exchanges Osama for hundreds of Indians taken hostage. NOW once again "OSAMA IS WANTED IN INDIA".

Autopsy of "INTERNSHIP"

I have written on various topics from political sphere. I forgot to write about something which was horribly wastage of scarce resources, and has been part of my life. Today I came across few posts regarding internship, which reminded me to decorate my blog with one posts regarding "golden phase" of my life. I don't want to use this phrase for this period but it was the phrase used my our Hon. H.O.D. on the very first day of our internship. Soon, "golden phase" got transformed in to "dark phase". If you can show patience to read the whole article, you will realize how 12 months of life of young budding doctor is wasted.

Community medicine posting is considered to be the most important from public health point of view. We are supposed to understand the problems of primary health care. What we learn is "How to pack tablets?" We are posted at urban health care centers. Government has money for all stupid and idiotic projects, but it can not provide 2 pharmacists at UHC. Interns are supposed to pack tablets and dispense. I would like to request MCI to issue some guidelines in this regard. This may be working experience for pharmacy graduate not for medical graduate. Next we were supposed to work at PHCs. I am going to skip this part, as writing true observations made over there might result in some legal problems. I would like to request gvt of India to scrap NRHM, because good chunk of dear money of taxpayers are wasted. I never found parity between number of children at aanganwadi enumerated and actual number attending aanganwadis.

Before going to Paediatrics department I had heard that we are supposed to clean desks and arrange books in bookshelf. I checked MCI guidelines regarding internship but nowhere I could find this work. I was lucky to get respite from this job as due to grace of God that HOD retired the day before I had joined. Interns are made to accompany each and every patient irrespective of number of relatives. It's not that patients were critical and needed a doctor to accompany.But accompanying intern would ensure that investigation is performed at the earliest. I was privileged to get one honorable job to do. I accompanied one friend of HOD for his medical check up. There are many more works to be mentioned. I don't think these works help us to become good clinicians.

Coming to department of Ob.&Gy. I don't have much to write about this posting as I was posted in coolest unit. It was as good as 30days' holiday. With help of other friends who were not as fortunate as me I could compile some works which we are supposed to do. Report tracing is one of the most common work allotted to interns. This is true for not only this department but also for whole of internship. Report tracing is in no way helpful to become doctor, apart from getting completion. I don't have much of personal experience of harassment in this department so I cant not write much. But I would like to say giving holiday is also not way to train doctors. One positive aspect was we got good practice of BP measurement in ANC clinic.

Coming to peripheral hospitals. It was one posting which I consider to be fruitful. It was consolation that not whole 12 months were wasted. We got lot of clinical experience. If anything needs mention is attitude of medical officers. I felt that this is only job where one is paid for coming and sleeping (specially during nights).

Orthopaedicians are too busy to notice interns. If accidentally they spot any intern they will try to get rid of him by sending him for some report tracing. They are so greedy for practice they don't even teach splinting to interns. On emergency days we spend whole day getting bored outside OT. I got work to take care of "sample drugs" given by MRs. I was not benefited clinically by this job. Yeah I got some painkillers for free.

Surgery posting was another "honeymoon" posting for me. Surprisingly I did not get even a dressing in whole 30 days' posting. Neither did I get an opportunity to learn volume resuscitation or any emergency procedure. I went to OT only once, not to assist in some surgical procedure but to hand over some reports to my resident.

Nothing to say short postings. These are done on paper only. Casualty posting means "PA of CMO" and ECG technician. Elective posting was never elective. It was forced on us. None of us had opted for "Malaria surveillance". Later on we realized that we had done radiology posting, but only on paper.

Medicine was good posting. We actually learnt few things.

Effectively interns are supposed to do "blood collection, report tracing, accompanying patients for investigation, getting appointments on behalf of patients, in worse cases to accompany relatives and pvt patients of seniors." I don't think These help us in becoming good doctors. I don't want this post to be very popular, because it might cause panic among poor people who would be our patients in future.

I would like to request MCI to do something to make internship more effective than wasting 365 days of our lives.

Real estate in mumbai-reality or bubble?

Recently, I read in news paper that average price of "flat" in mumbai is well over Rs. 1 crore. Cheapest flats are available in Bhandup suburb which costs around Rs. 1.14 crore. These flats well out of reach of self made upper middle class. What is reason behind such high prices? As per concept of market economy there must be more of demand than supply. Demand should exceed supply by really big margin. It also suggests "high affordability" of people staying mumbai. Considering income from "known sources" it would be impossible for "self made" doctors, engineers, bureaucrats etc. to own a house in mumbai. What is source on liquidity in real estate sector? From where does "demand come"? These are some tricky questions to be answered.

Many analysts says many things. Most common conviction is entry of "black money" in real estate market. Other convincing theory is bubble theory. With entry of "corporates" in real estate sector projected ratio of demand and supply is falsely projected on lower side. But can this bubble sustain for too long? Market analysts opine against it. Builder politician and corporate lobby are working in nexus. Politicians help builders get "soft loans", advertisements show false data of sold flats. Finally needy person ends up paying around double-triple amount of the actual value. As per market experts this bubble is not going to sustain for too long. In future, 5-10 years down the line, when current investors try to sell the property there will be scarcity of affording buyers. With increasing population in satellite cities of Thane and navi mumbai, shifting of corporate offices in suburbs and infiltration educational institutes in these areas and provision of almost all facilities in these peripheral suburbs, demand of property in mumbai is going to stagnate and then decline in future.

Recent census data with evidence of declined population in south mumbai supports above arguments. Now it's up to investor to decide..."is it wise to invest in real estate market of mumbai?" Another million dollar question is.."Will real estate market of mumbai suffer crisis as that happened in U.S. 3-4 years ago?" Stagnation of real estate during 1995-2002 in mumbai is another example of "burst of bubble". Stock market crisis is another example of such bursts. CAN REAL ESTATE MARKET OF MUMBAI LEARN FROM HISTORY AND CORRECT ITSELF GRADUALLY?

preventive way to eradicate corruption

Finally country, electronic media and "anti-corruption" movement seems to be settled down. Everyone was surprised to see extent of support this movement got. As usual I finished on side with minority. Considering number of NGOs, religious leaders and yoga gurus supporting this movement I don't consider this turnaround as exceptional. Youth support was limited to virtual world only. Ironically most of people supporting this movement were not aware about what this movement was about. "Jan lokpal" became most popular phrase and few knew details of it. Anyways I am not going to slam innocent people supporting this movement, neither I will waste more energy on masterminds of this staged revolution. One friend of mine asked me the alternate way to bring corruption down if it is not lokpal. I will try to mention some of my ideas to do so, I am sure not many will find it feasible.

Corruption has infiltrated all aspects of our lives so we have to accept fact that we can not get rid of it within few days or months. It will take some time. To eradicate it let us start with small scale corruption. If we won't bribe any government official then small scale bribery will be eliminated. Now people will argue it is not possible as these officials will keep on holding on their files if they don't bribe. We have anti corruption bureau and people of India are empowered to approach him directly (jan lokpal bill demands that ppl be empowered to approach lokpal directly). And if in case ACB doesn't work properly we have juduciary. In order to get rid of corruption we have to bear this thing. Lokpal if adopted as demanded by Hajare and co. then also it wont minimize this sufferings.

Coming to secondary corruption, in which both bribe givers and takers are benefitted. This constitutes most rampant corruption. Peope bribe to save IT, Sales tax, etc....people bribe to get rid of stringent punishment, people bribe to get undue advantage. We can not blame the government machinery for this kind of corruption. Let us not save money be giving bribe. Most of Indians are culprit in this regard. I can not understand why people blame only government machinery. (I would like to mention that biggest corruption of country belongs to this category...if benefitting telecom companies wud not have bribed gvt to get licenses at loww cost, 2G scam would hv never touched our country).

Coming systemic part. Good education and moral improvement of "generation next" would eradicate corruption when they will be in mainstream of the system few years later. Our education system needs to be revised radically. Let us move away from traditional education to value based education, rights based education and applied education. (I will give details later on)

Coming to root cause of corruption-"money". Government should give good salaries to it's employees and "incentives" based on performance. Government is trying on this aspect. RFD plan has been started. It should be extended to all government employees. This will work in two fold mechanism. It will prevent our youths from opting for pvt sector jobs and we will get best brains for government jobs. IF intelligent and sincere people will be part of system then definitely we will have better system.

Coming to political system. We ourselves are to blame for this situation. But technically speaking this can be solved within 5 years. In democracy people are most powerful. Let us utilize our "right to vote" in most effective manner possible. During elections affidavit of all contestents are put up on selction commission's website. Read them carefully and then vote. Most common counterargument is that all are corrupt and we have to chose one. Yeah this problem is partially true. Just go through the list. What we need to get politicised. If you don't want to vote for person nominated by someone else then why don't you try to mobilize someone of good academic, professional background to contest elections and campaign for them. This will force political parties to send good people to field. This is not very easy process. But we have to do it if we want to purify political system. No amount of legislation can ensure it. Because to every law these people will find some loophole to get away. LET US REALIZE OUR POWER.

Finally I would request all of you to be part of system. Try to get in to government jobs and work there sincerely. Its not the politicians who run the country. It is the government machinery which runs the country. If you find some problem with it then just be part of it to ensure it's smooth finctioning.

A POLITICAL MASTERSTROKE

Since last few days my fellow countrymen have been enlightened, thanks to "incarnation" of M.K.Gandhi. Everybody was convinced that one law drafted by "civil society" will wipe out all corruption from the country. Only time will prove valdity of this conviction. So I am leaving it on the fate of this counntry to decide upon it. Though there was many constitutional and legal issues regarding joint drafting of the said law, somehow, 126 years old political party failed to convince people regarding it. There were compromises from both sides. The movement which started to force government to accept the "Jan lokpal bill" settled at formation of joint committee. Committee of non political people to draft a law is not new, almost all laws are drafted by non political people only. I am surprised that a person openly abusing politicains accepted to work with them...so strange. My innocent fellow countrymen have always failed to understand the behind the curtain strategies and this issue is not an exception.

Idea of Lokpal bill is more than 50 years old. Drafting of bill by "civil society" activists was going on since last few years. Negotiations failed and this movement was launched. Have you ever thought about the timing of the launch. The timing itself suggests the "political masterstroke". With government already struggling to come over the corruption crisis, this was another powerfull blow to it. Only thing which have hold the country has been cricket. This movement was well planned to be launched between two mega cricketing events. Another reason was assembly elections in 4 major states and 1 UT. UPA is already struggling to make, what was thought to be easy win 12 months ago. It would have been a political crisis if government would have stood firmly. So government decided to give in. Why did government waited for 80 hours?? this was also strategic delay. With Mr. Sharad Pawar getting stronger polotically congress desperately wanted to cut his stature short. With Mr. Modern Gandhi SIngling out hon. Minister of agriculture, it was easy for congress to put him on back foot. Finally it succeeded. Somehow after his resignation from GoM civil society was satisfied to certain extent. It seemed either this movement was against him or his is symbol of corruption, interpretation is on reader.

Coming to the conclusion of the movement. Movement concluded with "non-notified" joint committee. The composition which is being discussed in media seems to be win win situation for GoI. Committee of 10 with 5-5 members will never be concluded unless some one decides to compromise. Governennt's victory lies in "chairperson" if he is granted veto power. Another saviour of government would be Justice Hegde, who has openly said that he is against some of provisions of Jan Lokpal bill. But can my fellow countrymen understand how can a rtd. SC judege, currently Lokayukta of Karnataka, known for his pre-congress stand be representative of civil society???? He is the victory point for government which will get through with little modification in original Lokpal bill and propaganda of 80 hours will be ineffective in the end.

Mr. Modern Gandhi openly used his vocabulary to kick politicians and now he has agreed to work with them on the same table and he will end up on dissenting side and my countrymen will again feel looted. Dear friends will be back again on this topic after 30th june..if you all can remember this propaganda till then. Just one advice for free..use your brains before following anyone blindly and ending up benefitting him.

Dear Mr. Anna Hazare and all his supporters

Dear all,
first of all I would like to introduce you all to Indians. We are very unique species. Our uniqueness lies in being exploited very easily. History of our exploitation is too long to summarize in words. Let me start with brithishers. They came and exploited us with their "gentlemen" look and our rulers of the time allowed them to establish them selves and in turn they transformed "golden bird" to "skelton bird". With grace of God and super human beings we got independence but again we were exploited by party which claimed to be chief saviour of our motherland. Over the period of time we were exploited by our poverty. Then came another party which exploited us by the name of Lord Rama. Again we were exploited by "secular' forces. Now please don't exploit us and make us dream of "corruption free India". Don't project the "lokpal" as super hero who will incarnate and gewt us of of this corrupt creed of people.

Dear countrymen I would like to ask few questions to you, hope you all will show some courtesy to answer them.

(1) I could not understand logic behind your demand of representation of civil society in bill drafting. As per my knowledge of law making any bill before becoming law has to pass litmus test in the parliament. What do you people exactly mean by civil society. Our constitution makers were well aware about or reproductive capacity therefore they introduced representative system, as it was impossible for 1.21 billion people to make law. Therefore we all elect our representatives every 5 year who would make law on our behalf. Then which civil society you r talking about??? how will it be represented???

(2) Will you please explain how this superhero known as lokpal eliminate corruption within minutes??? You are projecting it as super detergent which will wash off all immorality and corruption. But please explain how it will be done?? what provisions does your version of lokpal bill has which is not available with any of currently available anti corruption laws???

(3) our constitution has given you freedom of expression...express your views but don't hold government on ransom by threatening of fast un to death. (hope you people are aware about IPC 309)

(4) You people talk about Gandhian ideology. At time of Gandhiji there were different situation. He protested against foreign rule. How can you apply same concept to our own elected government. secondly let me mention one incident from gandhiji's life. In 1939 tripuri session of INC Gandhiji did not want Subhash Chandra Bose to become president of congress. But Bose defeated S. Sitaramaiya who was candidate of Gandhiji. Gandhiji resigned from congress working committee saying bose has defeated him and let him work independently. This was respect Gandhiji had dor elected representative. Can you show same respect towards government of 1 bil ppl.

Dear people I have lots of questions but I have constraint of time and words. I would conclude this letter by giving you some free advices. If you really want to do something for people then please work in the community. Let people get rid of their ignorances. let literate India get transormed in to educated India.

I am not sure whether Lokpal will be superman to wipe out corruption but I know one simple idea for this purpose. I request all my countrymen not to ever offer bribe. I would request you all to do your duties sincerely. If 1.21 billion people pledge to be non corrupt then we dont need any lokpal. People will talk about their sufferings in case of not offering bribe. Dear people if three generations sacrificed for freedom let our one generation to acheive neat and clean India.

Letter to PM...

Respected Sir,

Before writing anything I would like to make declaration that I am not constitution expert or political strategist. As I have said in one of my previous letters, I am “common man of India”; the AAM AADAMI of your very own party.

Sir I am provoked to write to you due to some unauthorized unauthenticated unconfirmed leaked mails. I have certain doubts. I request you to clear them. I expect you will do the needful because being PM of India you are answerable to common man.

We people of India do not know the technicalities of investigation. JPC constituted to probe this matter, could not explain the source of 3 crore Rs brought in the parliament. 3 crore might be small amount for your colleagues in parliament, but it is very big amount for 99.99% of Indians. Sir, you and your party is stressing that this committee gave clean chit to accused people. But sir if you go into details of this committee, this decision was taken with 4-3 majority in the committee. It means that 3 people felt that everything was not clear. Secondly sir committee was constituted of MPs who are not an expert. Thirdly this committee recommended further investigation of this matter by expert authorities. Now sir can tell us what happened to third recommendation??? What was source of money brought inside Lok Sabha???

Sir I want you to do an objective analysis using common sense of this wikibomb. In past also govt of US had not refused the authenticity of these cables. It implies that these are true conversations not fabricated either by The Hindu or Julian Assange and company. Now sir coming to next step-diplomat of US conveyed that information to his government. US badly wanted the deal to go through so that their companies could get investment opportunities in largest energy market of the world. Therefore US was keeping close eye over the issue of trust vote. To my common sense it seems to be beyond logic that a diplomat would convey false information over such critical issue. Then we can conclude that words in leaked cables are true. Isn’t it your duty to clarify on this issue without technical jargons to your countrymen who stood by you in 2009 election?

Now sir I listened your statement in parliament. It was very much correct politically but it lacked common sense. It was full of arrogance that your party was re-elected. I need not to tell you voting pattern in India. I am from Maharashtra, and I can tell you that victory of congress was not due to “good governance”; but you should be thankful to MNS who contributed to defeat of opposition. Similarly there were many non-relevant issues like caste, regional issues etc. during elections which contributed to the victory. People of India are very innocent and they have short memory. Sir I bet if an effective opposition can capitalize the poor governance, inflation and corruption effectively then no sense voter will ever for this government.

Sir, I am sorry if I have been too harsh but this is harsh reality of India.

Flag hoisting at Lal Chowk

BJP is a political party and it is politically correct about its ekta yaatra; may not be so correct ethically. Congress government has also tried its best to capitalize on this yatra. It seems that congress purposely publicized this by its overwhelming opposition. Congress seems to be in better position politically. If it succeeds then it will get the credit of maintaining law and order; and if it fails then also it will blame bjp for it and get away with its experience in politics.

As far as issue of hoisting tricolor at lalchowk is concerned, by opposing it on the basis of disturbance of law and order we will give message that we accept kashmir is a disputed area, which we have not done in last 63 years. It will again boost morale of separatists, sitting in India and across the border.

If on the contrary congress would have allowed this to happen the situation would have been much better. First this issue would not have got too much media coverage and any outrage if at all provoked would have been easily manageable. Secondly by preventing outrage and violence we would have given message that Kashmir is integral part of India, and kashmiris accept it.

I would like to attract attention towards his reference of "new delhi" and "kashmir". I would request intelligentsia of this country that please try to avoid such references. It sends poor message, magnifies feelings of separatism.

I am sure, not many kashmiris favor its accession to pakistan, what they want is minimal interference of army (i would request media not to use phrase INDIAN ARMY). It is two way process. 100% demilitarization is not possible as it is border state. Yeah we need to take steps to minimize impact of militarization on day to day life of common kashmiris. If people of kashmir want more autonomy and less interference of army then also there is no reason that a flag hoisting should provoke outrage. It is possible only separatists are quantitatively more. If it is so then it is not good sign. We should concentrate on curbing separatists feelings by social development and progress. I would like to repeat that opposing flag hoisting will do nothing better than boosting morale of separatists.

just think over it..

hi frnds,
m here with another analyzed fact which is paradoxical to my personal thinking. M great fan of cricket and some cricketers; but after giving due consideration to their success rate, contribution towards society and remunerations i feel there exist great disproportion as compared to other fields. many arguments and counterarguments can be given to glorify glamor world and one's personal likings but no one can deny above fact.

just take example of one of the greatest batsman-
total ODIs played-444
0 runs
20

1-9 runs
98

10-19 runs
53

20-29 runs
38

30-39 runs
44

40-49 runs
29

50-89 runs
62

90-99 runs
17

150-199 runs
2

Let's we take at least 30 (1/10 of 300 runs) runs as bench mark for success in an inning. The above stats says that this player has been dismissed for 209 times with score of less than 30 runs. It makes roughly 47% of all his innings. Statistically we can say that 47% of times the said player has failed to deliver.

now let's compare with other professionals..-
A surgeon failing to save 47% of his patients would be one of the worst among his contemporaries;
A physician misdiagnosing and failing to cure 47% of his patients should make bonfire of his degrees;
a architect who designs 100 buildings and bridges out of which 47 collapses then he should be behind bars under S.304A of IPC;
A teacher, whose 47% of students fail will struggle to stay in the profession and will starve to death;
a software engineer whose 47% of programs fail to run will be responsible for bankruptcy of his company;
.
.
.
.
and so on.

now in terms of contribution towards well-being of society others do a lot better. these are statistics of the best player, cant think about comparing mediocre and worst. now this can be applied to other fields also...just analyze yourselves; what is success rate of people whom we glorify with others around us...i know not many will like this article...many will label it as my frustration of not being among those glorified personalities..but whatever...a fact will always remain fact...lastly an appeal..."think before you make some one rich on cost of yourself...hope that message is clear.."

thanks a lot if u have shown patience to read this article...and also if u implement it in your lives...
